“Don’t take your loved ones here! My brother was removed from the program after allegedly failing a drug test. He maintained that he had not used any substances, so we sought additional testing through multiple medical professionals. All subsequent tests came back negative. We were informed that the substance in question would remain detectable for months, which led us to believe the original test result was a false positive. We provided the clinic with documentation supporting this, yet he was not readmitted for several weeks. Since completing treatment, he has experienced relapses and has attempted to return for the two-week readmission period that we were told was available. Our family has also repeatedly contacted the facility on his behalf. To date, we have exchanged many emails, phone calls, and messages with the clinic, but have received little to no assistance or clear communication regarding his readmission. As a result, he has decided to seek treatment elsewhere because like many others we have spoken to, this clinic doesn’t want what’s best but who pays best. Our experience has been frustrating and disappointing, particularly given the importance of timely support for individuals struggling with addiction. We hope the facility improves its communication and responsiveness to former clients seeking help.”Read moreShow less

“I can’t recommend the Canadian Centre for Addictions in Cobourg highly enough. From the moment I arrived, every staff member treated me with genuine compassion, respect, and professionalism. They listened, supported, and encouraged me through every step of the program, and their warmth made a difficult time feel safe and hopeful. The programming was thoughtful, well-structured, and practical — a strong mix of evidence-based therapies, life-skills training, and relapse-prevention tools. Everything felt relevant and paced so I could really absorb and practice what I was learning. By the time I graduated I genuinely felt prepared to re-enter life with new tools and confidence, and that preparation is proving true in my everyday life. If you’re looking for a caring, competent place to start recovery, this centre delivers. I’m deeply grateful for the team and the program — they changed my life.”Read moreShow less

“The Cobourg facility is in a very nice setting, close to activities the people can enjoy with supervision. The staff we met Annette the administrator of the facility and Sarah, one of the in house nurses are very nice and they explained everything to do with the program perfectly. They gave ve us a tour of the facility and people in the program that we saw there seemed happy and contented with the progress they are making! So, obviously what the staff are doing is working and is a valuable service! Another person I want to mention is Timmi Lawrason, she doesn't work at the Cobourg facility but she was instrumental in connecting us with them. We knew nothing about what we were dealing with and Timmi helped us with understanding what had to be done and getting everything in order. A very, very big help. I believe Timmi is also a valuable asset to the success of The Canadian Center for Addictions!”Read moreShow less

“The staff at CCFA were very helpful, the counsellors were there to help and wanted the best for me. Trevor, Sam, Brook and Tim were a great asset to my recovery. The medical team, housekeeping, and awesome kitchen staff made the stay away from home much easier. The programing is what you make of it. If you put in the effort you will see the benefits and progress in your recovery.”Read moreShow less

“do not let the website fool you. the place is a dump. The administration is apauling. Once they have your money and you are in the facility the admin people stop caring. i paid for a private room where the i had to stand in ankle deep gray water in the shower for a week before the finally snaked it out. requesting it to be cleaned out and promised we will have it looked at right away daily... eye roller. it was a fight to get councelling started, let alone know who your primary councellor was. I had needed to deal with some EI issues and on my intake meeting with Maria (and my wife) was promised access to a computer right away. 3 days later after asking daily, and given same promise by Maria that my Primary counsellor, who i have not met yet, will help me with this. finally day 4 i have met the primary and not given access to a computer but only my cell phone to complete what i needed to do... I was on a 45 day stay so i paid for 6 psychotherapy sessions and recesived 3, missed 3 1 on 1 therapy sessions with my primary who what changed half way through... the first one told me i made the wrong choice and should not be there because i made the decistion to be there with my family instead of making the decision by myself... I had to fight for the the remaining psychotherapy sesstions with the facility manager Annette Maxwell to get the therapy sessions after i left, because their records were incorrect. 1 psychotherapy session per week, 1st one received on week 3..... math is simple. all this to say $50G for a 45 day stay in a building that is falling apart is poorly run. the secondary therapist do NOT know how to teach or give group session handle large groups. Groups are WAY to large for everyone to be able to contribute (that is what one of the primary councellors told us). Trevor is Awesome. Paige and Joseph are fantastic. there is alot to be learned from the councellors that know what they are doing. Chef Roger is great, the food that he serves is great. Enter at your own risk.”Read moreShow less

“Hi it's Chris J, now proudly a part of the alumni group who has graduated with perfect attendance from a 30 day treatment program at Cobourg CCFA. I only mention my attendance simply to state the fact that I looked forward to every single moment to learn while I was there. Whether it be something to be absorbed from the beautiful teachings from any and all of the staff or the personal shares from residents, all of it is well worth a listen. The accommodations in my opinion, were absolutely fantastic and my treatment for alcohol and cocaine disorder, certainly went above and beyond what my preconceived ideas that I had, had in mind. They have wonderful counselors and psychologists that made me aware of some possible traumas in life, that of course I was fully unaware of, which in turn contributes to addiction in unforeseen ways. After I had completed 30 days successfully, it really felt like I had spent an entire year there. I know that sounds hard to believe, but for me, that's what the transformation felt like in my mind and body, its was like hitting the big red reset button and was like it transformed me back twenty years in life. I can finally once again think with clarity and feel loving kindness, and that is the best feeling. The only downfall for me is that I miss them all tremendously, but its only been a day, and change in life is inevitable. Also, they graciously set you up with ways to stay in touch, which is so wonderful and supportive as I walk my road of recovery. If anyone out there is debating this, please don't waste any more of your precious time, your good life awaits!!! Thank you CCFA for helping me find those keys that I lost so long ago. They were the important keys that kept me lock up inside and now I'm free!!! xxoo”Read moreShow less

“The people here truly care and have drastically changed my life for the better. You feel nothing but love and support and are so well taken care of in every regard! The therapists are amazing and dig deep to find the root of your pain in order to asses why the addiction. “I attended a 45 day program at CCFA. From the time I entered to the time I left, I felt like I was happier, healthier, and proud of the transformation I was able to make. I felt the counsellors truly care about the residents, wanting the best for every single one of us. When there was a time that I felt I was struggling with either my sobriety, being away from family, or just being in a rehabilitation environment and felt off, it was quick that either a counsellor, nurse, or any of the staff would pick up on that and help me get back on track. Yes, there are many extra things that make CCFA a little more enjoyable, for example; in all 45 days I did not have one meal that I didn’t enjoy, but what I found most helpful was the structure that CCFA gave us. Your days are busy, but as an addict struggling with where my mind would go when I would have too much time on my hands, the busy days were a blessing in disguise and helped me learn how to build structure in my own life after leaving CCFA. The residents while I attended would all say the same thing, “the days are long but the weeks are short”. Even when I felt a class wasn’t exactly pertaining to my situation in life, there were always at least knowledgable life advice that I could take away, a quote that would perk me back up and I would jot down, or a potential journal prompt for me to purge my feelings onto paper. The classes were very well run, which is easier said than done when dealing with a room full of addicts. There were opportunities for residents to dip our toes into AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), NA (Narcotics Anonymous), and CA (Cocaine Anonymous), both off-site and on-site, which can be nerve-racking to attend for the first time on your own. From my own experience, I don’t know if I would’ve had the courage to show my face at a meeting without the help I received from CCFA. I already touched on the amazing experience we were all lucky enough to receive from the counsellors, but just touching on it is an understatement. Everyone in the house gets paired up with one of the primary counsellors, who are all incredible in their own way, and like I said earlier, it is easy to tell they are all there for the resident to get better. I felt very lucky to get matched up with the primary counsellor Trevor, not only did he help me climb out of the hole I was in, he did so in a way like I could relate to in my life. I was excited for every interaction I was able to have with him, because every time I left a conversation with Trevor, I felt happier about myself and my decision to attend CCFA. I’m sure that would be the consensus if I had been paired with any of the primary counsellors, but I must say Trevor is an incredible counsellor, genuine and kind-hearted person, and an all around great human being. Having the ability to also talk to a psychotherapist once a week, on top of the sessions you would have with your primary counsellor was very helpful. Both the primary counsellor and pyschotherapist get you to look inside yourself to see the real you, and help yourself out of that darkness and back into the light of your life. Outside of counsellors are the nurses, and even though it sounds like I am just repeating myself, I found they were all amazing people. The nursing staff truly cared about your health, physically, mentally, and emotionally. They weren’t just nurses, they were your friends wanting the best for you. CCFA has taught me so many things in such a short period of time and saying I’m grateful for it all doesn’t feel like it’s enough to truly highlight how thankful I am to everyone there who helped me along the 45 days. I’m sure there are many great rehabilitation centres to choose from, but I highly recommend considering CCFA as your choice. I will caution you though, you get out of this program what you put into it. Take it seriously if you truly want results. I don’t know the last time I felt happy in my own skin, and today, I can say that is exactly how I feel. I highly doubt that I would be able to say those words without the help of CCFA.”Read moreShow less
