“Ashley is a very kind and compassionate person, and she has created a calm, welcoming office in a great location. I appreciated her warmth and the opportunity to try working together. After two sessions, however, I realized that her therapeutic style was not the right fit for me. I was looking for a more client-centred approach with guided questions and space to explore my own experiences and emotions. At times, I found that a significant portion of our sessions focused on examples from her own experiences or those of other people. While I understand from her response that she has found sharing others’ experiences helpful for clients who may otherwise feel alone, I personally found that approach less helpful and sometimes felt that it took time away from exploring my own experience. I also recognize that I did not communicate this clearly during our sessions. When we discussed moving forward with somatic work and hypnotherapy, I indicated that I was comfortable with the plan, but I had not fully recognized at that point that I was looking for a different therapeutic dynamic. I believe this is ultimately a matter of therapeutic fit rather than a reflection of Ashley’s character or intentions. She was kind and clearly wants to support her clients, and I appreciate her thoughtful response to my feedback. I simply found that I needed a different approach, so I decided to seek therapy elsewhere.”
