Approximately over the last four months I have watched Frank DeMichele Community Relations Coordinator handle his job function. I understand Frank was recently brought in to fill this position ay Harmony Court independent Care Centre in Burnaby. Centre sold shortly after Frank came on board. What I find for the new purchaser Optima Living Frank enjoys coming to work and helping people, you see it in every way. I have seen Frank getting asked a question he legitimately does not know the answer instead of giving some phony reply, Frank will get back to them with the proper answer. To me, I find this situation, attitude, what I hope becomes contagious.

This review is a long time coming for the service received in 2022. Don’t feel the management and staff care for specific patients like my Dad properly. Gave entertainment to able bodied people. Tried to take my Dad out earlier but he died due to Covid. Staff did not put up proper care and isolate residents enough. This facility had many deaths due to the first wave of covid patients- during the second wave of Covid I felt staff had learned from the first wave experience. Not that I could see. Dad caught Covid In his room shared by another man who was wheeled out. I should not have used this place for my Dad. Management should have been replaced over this!! Once, I showed up to feed my Dad but staff forgot to take out his food- had to chase down a staff member. During the heat wave, staff member took our fan for another room. Please!!! Facility should make sure all patients have enough fans. After my Dad died, I went upstairs to get my Dad’s things. They should have brought it downstairs because we were still in the pandemic situation. Still regretting my dad’s stay there. I filed a complaint with the health authority but it must have got lost in the system- no response when it was filed.

I agree with Lillian's opinion. Harmony Court is dark and dingy. depressing I would say. They gouge you on cleaning fees above and beyond what is allowed by the tenancy ACT. Disgusting how management tries to exert more money from tenants using a cleaning fee guise. Renovations are cheap, cheap carpet , etc. Im extremley disgusted how they went after my parent for "cleaning' fees over and above what is allowed. Be very careful and take photos and bring witnesses with you.

It was recommended by my relatives as I am disabled and I booked a tour with the manager Joel. He was very helpful and showed me the different amenities, and I selected a 1 bedroom 500.sq.ft. They have lots of fun social activities. The staff is very friendly and thoughtful. I met the who resided their and they had interesting stories to tell you. The location is great close to restaurants, Westminster Mall, and transportation easily accessible. I just have one minor issue they have to be more creative with the menu, but I noticed it has improved a bit. I'm aware that food prices are rising and like everything else.

100% Would recommend! Our grandpa recently moved into Harmony Court (the independent living side). Our family visited for a week and stayed via renting a guest suite. It was a clean, spacious, humble living space - all meals included. Essentially we lived like a resident for a week! We wanted to know if it was a place we were comfortable caring for our loved one. The staff and residents were brimming with kindness and care for each other. Our interactions with reception, custodian and kitchen staff were all extremely positive and welcoming. It was obvious that they really care for the residents, paying attention to little details of their needs (food preferences, mobility limitations, etc.). They keep track of who attends meal times so that they can make sure they touch base with a resident who may not be feeling well. Their activity board is always full for socialization opportunities. The food! The food menu was consistently good and mindfully crafted to suit the needs and lifestyle of our older loved ones. It was such a pleasant experience and treasured time to spend time with our grandpa in this way and connect with residents and staff. We might just sign up for our own retirement in a few decades!

EDITED 05/11/23** I have a aunt that is currently staying here. The place is rather dark and gloomy inside. However the people that work there are quite friendly and helpful. I’ve been to other care homes and usually they require mandatory COVID 19 testing but this place didn’t require that. There’s plenty of parking outside and overall I would say this place is a half decent place for a family member. **Today I took my grandmother to see her sister here. Arrived and was looking for parking. Found a open spot that an employee was sitting on the curb having a cigarette in front of. I politely asked him to move so I could park as it had NO SIGNS stating it was reserved. The employee told me it was reserved. And didn’t move. I was with my grandmother otherwise I would have said something to the employee. So we moved to another spot and waited for the gentleman to finish his cigarette and he walked inside. We then went to the original spot and parked. Quite honestly I think there should be better signs for visitors and employees should not behave so ignorantly… Unfortunately the clip is only allowed to be 30 seconds long so the entire scene is edited for the sake of uploading.**

Do NOT send your parents here. These people will rip you off. The place is run-down, they reduced people's food portions due to "higher costs". When you leave, they rip you off by charging an exorbitant amount of "cleaning" fees yet the apartment that my mother stayed at had old vinyl floor, old carpets, paint chips on the stove that they never fixed, broken closet doors. They have no shame in the way they treat people. My mother gave notice and they charged her a full month's rent, the apartment sat empty for a full month, and they did not give her back the percentage of food she didn't consume for that entire month. You are better off living at Mulberry Park. They are more fair, the apartments are very modern and bright and some have views. Age Care Harmony is VERY DEPRESSING. Stay away.

Thoroughly impressed by the people who manage and run Age Care Harmony Court. Elisa and her team really go above and beyond in making sure we felt welcome, informed and cared for helping us navigate through complex inquiries we had and connecting us to the right resources. In having dealt with the health care system, we have never experienced such efficiency and diligence as we had here. From the administrative to the care and nursing staff, the people are caring, courteous and proficient. Don't be put off by the facilities being vintage in feel, the care you receive and people more than make up for it and you will be in good hands. We consistently witnessed staff constantly sanitizing with checks and protocols in place to ensure this. The nurses and care aids are very professional, yet so kind. This was experienced at every point of contact and not isolated; which makes us feel there are good systems and processes in place from hiring to maintaing this level of service. This was not only seen with our family member, but in observing the helping of those who were alone. Whether those find their home here or are just passing through, they will be lucky to be under such good management and care at Age Care Harmony Court.

We toured Harmony Court today. Environment was uplifting and serene, everyone was friendly, and the prices were reasonable......but the BEST part was the TOUR GUIDE, Joel!!! He could actually make touring a retirement home an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.
