“It’s been 2 years since my experience of my birth which involved Sharon Barber as part of my labour and delivery team. Sharon was suppose to be my replacement midwife during my labour on October 6, 2022 at the Abbotsford Hospital (as my original midwife- Natasha Oglesby from Chilliwack gave short notice and left me during my due date along with other unprofessional protocols). Sharon approved over the phone with the nurse , to give me a morphine and gravol injection for my contraction pain. Without prior testing his heart etc . Shortly after the shot, my son’s heart rate started acting weird when checked with the hospital doppler. The first two times, his heart rate was very unusual (low and then very high) . The nurses never did a non stress test either and ignored my concerns the whole time about his rapid movements and heart rates. The nurse sent me home as I was only 1cm dilated at the time and it was my “first pregnancy”, also his third Doppler test was more in range. So my partner and I left the hospital super confused with the lack of proper care all around but we still put our trust in these “professionals”, as we were told everything was fine. The meds did nothing for my pain. Not once did Sharon check in with me over phone or in person that day. I spent most of my dilation on my own bed at home, confused that I had no care. I had to reach out to my friend and family for support. When I went to Chilliwack hospital instead later that day , due to lack of baby movements and no heart beat on my home doppler , that’s when I found out my full term son was now dead inside of me . I was then sent another new midwife when at Chilliwack hospital. Since Chilliwack is outside of Sharons scope apparently, yet her profile info states Chilliwack as one of her zones. Sharon did not connect with me until I was already back home the next day, after I already birthed my deceased son. She left a voicemail asking if I wanted a post pardum check up. Which I declined, as I thought it’s too late now and what was the point!!. It infuriated me the lack of care and communication , I felt so let down. A huge slap in the face! My son ended up dying from cord strangulation . Had I had my midwife there for me to advocate and request the proper non stress tests procedures etc , my son would of been here alive!”Read moreShow less

“Had the privilege to be taken care of by the amazing team at Abbotsford Midwifery for my entire pregnancy with my first baby. I can’t say enough good things about these ladies. They always made me feel so at ease with every visit, listened to every question and concern, and truly just made me feel well taken care of. Not only that but they always provided me with so much helpful information and knowledge. With a long and bit of a scary labour and delivery, both Stacey and Danielle were a fantastic support system at the hospital. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and I will be forever grateful for them. Oh, & Reagan in the office is such a joy to deal with as well. “I had baby #1 almost 5 months ago and coming to see my midwives was such a fun and secure experience. They always paid attention and helped me in every way they could and never judged me for any preference or request or condition. My labour was long and tough but I had Mary! She had me in every position imaginable to get my baby out and even though I had c section I know without a doubt she did absolutely everything. Postpartum care they always gave me their best advice and extreme support. I will 100% be using them for all of my pregnancies!!!! You should too! “From 20 weeks of pregnancy until 6 weeks postpartum, Sharon and the midwifery team provided exceptional care. Every midwife was kind, caring, and supportive throughout my pre and postnatal appointments, always offering thoughtful answers and thorough explanations. Sharon attended my birth, guiding me through a mostly natural experience with what seemed like infinite wisdom from her years of experience. Her support was unwavering and invaluable, making my birth experience truly wonderful. The office is clean, warm, and inviting. “I was with Abbotsford midwifery 3-4 years ago in 2020/21 for my first pregnancy and it took my second pregnancy with another clinic to truly realize just how poor their treatment and care towards pregnant women is and how much it affected and impacted me negatively to this day. Each appointment was very rushed, I felt dismissed and felt the midwives took no time to build any connection with me. They always forgot my name and asked me the same basic questions over and over. Appointments were always running late which was disappointing during Covid when I already had very limited in person care and a lot of it was over the phone and felt very isolated by being unable to have my support person with me. Lab and ultrasound requisitions were lost and weren’t sent in on a regular basis. Eventually I lost trust in the administrative staff and ended up asking for everything to be given to me or emailed. At my 16 week appointment, Sharon couldn’t find the heartbeat caused unnecessary stress and took no extra measure to make sure I was ok or to find another Doppler to try or ask another staff member for assistance and instead got me to come back two days later, filled with anxiety. If she was really concerned, why wasn’t I sent for fetal monitoring? This seems to be a pattern with other patients experiencing the same based on other reviews. Fast forward to the birth - Sharon managed to stress me out yet again that day by constantly asking when my OR time would happen and telling me she was leaving to go back to the office. I felt like I was an inconvenience to them as a patient. I found her to be very useless during the birth and hospital stay. During the post partum visit, she pretty much gave up on helping me breast feed and everything was blamed on my baby having a tongue tie and I needed to find my own lactation consultant and supplement with formula. I left that appointment in tears, feeling inadequate and completely brushed off. After one in clinic visit and one home visit, I ended up dropping them and received alternative care. Please do your research and read all of the reviews - there are so many amazing midwiferies out there with glowing recommendations and staff who are so passionate about helping and supporting every woman and birth. “My time with Abbotsford Midwifery has come to an end, and I'm in debt to the love and support I felt during this pregnancy. This was my third baby, and my previous two were supported by a different team. I can easily say, I truly wish I had these ladies with my for all my pregnancies. They're an incredible group of knowledgeable and kind humans who want to make this experience seamless. I dealt lots with Danielle and Mary, and I'm so grateful they were present during my hospital stay and the c-section. Mary was my midwife during the surgery, and seriously everything to me during that time. Her calmness and emotional support got me through and I'm so grateful for her. I truly felt welcomed by all the midwives and the incredible secretary Reagan. “Sharon from Abbotsford Midwifery delivered both of my babies. I found them to be very accommodating: offering home visits when needed due to intense morning sickness, taking me on as a client around week 35 with my first child (we moved to Abbotsford and needed a local care provider), and offering lots of suggestions for my own unique body and circumstances. Heather is so knowledgeable. I saw her for most of my visits leading up to baby's birth and she was very empathetic and experienced. Sharon was calm and encouraging during the births, letting me know what stage of labour I was at, what would come next, and making helpful suggestions. I highly recommend these ladies! They also have an acupuncturist (Kathy is great!) and ladies who do pre-natal massage. My massage with Trina was awesome.”Read moreShow less
