#Erl Fullido
B.A. (Hons)
M.Ed. Counselling Psychology (In progress)
Erl is a student counsellor pursuing a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Manitoba, and is completing his practicum requirements under the supervision of Dr. Trevi Freeze.
Prior to beginning Erl's graduate studies, he completed his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Psychology at the University of Manitoba. Erl's previous experiences included working alongside individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health concerns, as well as volunteering as a mobile crisis counsellor.
Erl views therapy as a supportive and collaborative process where individuals can safely explore their lived experiences, gain greater self-awareness, develop coping strategies, and work toward improving their overall well-being. Through his personal and professional experiences, Erl has learned that providing meaningful support is not simply about offering solutions, but about creating a space where people feel heard and understood. Erl values building therapeutic relationships with clients that allow them to feel safe, respected, and supported throughout the counselling process.
Erl's approach to counselling is primarily person-centred because he believes that each client is the expert in their own life and has the capacity to grow and live a purposeful life based on their own beliefs, values, and understanding of themselves and their experiences. Erl also believe that every client has their own unique strengths and resources that can help them work toward the life they desire. Through a collaborative and strength-based approach, he hopes to work alongside clients as they recognize and build upon these strengths. Erl sees his role as walking alongside clients and supporting the steps they choose to take toward healing and growth.
When working with clients, Erl hopes to incorporate techniques from different therapeutic approaches, including Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and many other humanistic approaches, while maintaining a person-centred lens.
As a student counsellor, Erl recognizes the limits of his professional competency, and only uses techniques that he has received appropriate education, training, and supervision to provide.
Through his practicum opportunity at Alleviate Holistic Health, Erl hopes to continue developing his counselling knowledge and skills while learning from his colleagues, clients, and experiences as a developing counsellor. Most importantly, Erl hopes to provide compassionate care that reflects each client’s individual needs and experiences.
Erl is open to working with individuals of diverse ages, identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences who are seeking individual counselling. He hopes to approach each client with openness and respect while honouring their unique experiences, strengths, and goals.
