#Dr. Trevi Freeze
B.A., P.B.D.E., M.Ed., CCC., Ph.D.
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), clinical leader and supervisor, educator, author, researcher, master angler and fisherwoman, lifelong learner, and helper who genuinely cares about other people. I want you to succeed and live “the good life.” My clinical work is grounded in Humanistic, Cognitive-Behavioural, and Solution-Focused methodologies, with a strong commitment to positive psychological approaches. I believe that living well requires more than simply fixing problems. It is equally important to recognize what is going well in your life and to identify new ways to draw upon your strengths, capabilities, and personal resources to support your overall wellbeing and happiness.
Over the years, I have worked with adolescents and adults experiencing challenges related to many areas, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, life transitions, LGBTQ2S+ and coming out, relationship difficulties, self-defeating behaviours, grief and loss, stress and burnout, low self-esteem, trauma/PTSD/CPTSD, disordered eating, addiction, body image, perfectionism, procrastination, ADHD, and self-advocacy. I have also spent many years counselling and supporting individuals with disabilities, including physical, intellectual, learning, developmental, and multiple disabilities. My experience includes working with individuals experiencing bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, and borderline personality disorder.
I believe that living the good life also means making space for ourselves through self-care, stress reduction, and relaxation. I am passionate about self-care and knowledgeable in a variety of stress reduction and relaxation techniques, including mindfulness, progressive muscle relaxation, alternate-nostril breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, and somatic-based approaches.
As a lifelong learner, I have developed a substantial academic and professional background in counselling psychology. Prior to obtaining my Ph.D. in Education, I completed a Master’s degree and a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of Manitoba. My training included individual and group counselling at the University of Manitoba’s Student Counselling and Career Centre, which is accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. I also hold a Baccalauréat ès Arts from l’Université de Saint-Boniface, where I majored in psychology.
I am also recognized for my leadership in advancing inclusive post-secondary education in Manitoba and beyond, including through the award-winning Campus Life Program at the University of Manitoba. This work reflects a longstanding commitment to expanding meaningful educational opportunities, participation, and belonging for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My broader professional work encompasses clinical leadership and excellence in psychotherapy and clinical supervision, as well as teaching counselling and behaviour at the P.B.D.E. and graduate levels at the University of Manitoba.
During my university studies, I was the recipient of two major scholarships, as well as several additional scholarships and awards. I have published articles in academic journals including the British Journal of Learning Disabilities, Exceptionality Education International, Intersectionalities: A Global Journal of Social Work, Analysis, Research, Polity, and Practice, the American Association for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities Manitoba Journal of Counselling, and the Manitoba Association of Resource Teachers. I have also published several book chapters on topics related to social-emotional learning and behaviour, both as a sole author and co-author. In addition, I deliver workshops on counselling and education in academic and professional settings.
